Now I've been hearing a lot of talk about legalizing marijuana. I even saw a poll on the news saying over 75% of the population was all for it.
Now in a democracy, the government is supposed to represent the people and their views and desires and so you'd think the government would make it legal tomorrow, just so as you wouldn't think your so-called vote was big sham and that this so-called democracy was not all just a big-fat lie.
But pot is NOT legal, and so, all but the most stupid automatons among you now realize that our governments are not really democracies at all. Or else the only other posibility is that maybe the government knows something that 'We the People' don't....Maybe...just maybe...the government has seen BLOOD FREAK!!!

Forget REEFER MADNESS!!! If this flick doesn't scare you away from dope (and Thanksgiving too), nothing will!!! Or if the actual plot doesn't scare you off, this flick could be used as aversion therapy...it's pretty bad.
In fact, some have even compared this to PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE as possibly the worst movie ever made. Me, I'm not sure what it should be compared to, I've never seen anything quite like this. This movie definately falls deep into the 'What the Hell?!?!?' catagory. It's often billed as a Turkey-Monster-Anti-Drug-Pro-Jesus-Gore-Film and I guess that pretty much describes it. Ripe with anti-drug and pro-Christian undertones, it begs the question, is this serious or is it Brad F. Grinter and Steve Hawkes twisted idea of a parody? Having seen Mr. Grinter's flick FLESH FEAST, I tended towards the former, but seeing him as the narrator in BLOOD FREAK, hacking while smoking a cigarette and spouting about the dangers of drugs and chemicals in the body, it seems more likely it's the latter.

The story basically is about this vietnam vet biker, played by Steve Hawkes (who also plays Tarzan in some Spanish Tarzan movies), who becomes involved with two sisters. One of the sisters is a devote preachy Christian, while the other is pot-smoking party girl. At first he tends toward the christian but he eventually falls for the wiles of the party girl and ends up smoking some pot and, get this, becomes a pot junky (like there is such a thing!?!).

To make matters worse, he gets a job at the sister's father's turkey farm, and eats some experimental turkey meat. This combination of drugs and experimental turkey meat, turns our hero into a foolish looking turkey-monster which must feast on blood.

The acting in this flick is atrocious, and the dialogue is reminiscent of Ed Wood movies, unatural sounding and full of moral platitudes. The story itself, is pretty lame and unbelievable and is also very reminiscent of Ed Wood, particularly the surealness and the Criswell/Lugosi-like narrator. The production value is practically non-existant. The gore highlight is the turkey-monster sawing off this guys leg and drinking the blood from the stump, for a movie this bad, it was particularly well done in a H.G. Lewis sort of way.

Needless to say, this movie is ONLY for fans of bad movies. And even then, you may still be left shaking your head when it's done....
It's certainly not for anyone who hates Ed Wood flicks and definately not for members of PETA.

This was one of the movies that finally drove the nail in the coffin of my Tape Trading Days. I thought to myself, if someone will release this movie on DVD and for less than $20, then what's the point of search ing through trader's list for movies I want when I can just go to Amazon and get it for what would amount to the same amount of cash out and a lot less effort. I did have a VHS version but when the Something Wierd DVD was released, I grabbed a copy, knowing that there might just be some extras and maybe some commentary that might enlighten me on this bizzare movie. And as Something Weird DVDs usually go, this one was packed with extras, including a Short with the director and some nudists and a short documentary on poultry farming, and a few DVD Easter Eggs (Select the "Fine Feathered Features" option at the main menu. Highlight the "Ghastly Gallery of Ghoulish Cover Art with Music by the Dead Elvi" option and press Right to highlight a hidden turkey. Press Enter to view a clip featuring the movie's narrator. Highlight the "Fine Feathered Features" option at the main menu and press Up to highlight a hidden turkey. Press Enter to view a commercial for a turkey contest.)
And I'm glad I did get this when I did. Here it is, just over six years later, and all ready the DVD is out of print and copies are going for $100 on Amazon. That's how much of a Cult Favourite this flick is! If you can check out the DVD (not sure that I'd pay $100 for it though), or if not check it out by whatever means necessary. You will be hard pressed to see a movie more bizzare!!!
